A month that felt like year (Literary Journalism by Patricia Ann Dasa 12 HUMSS JOY)

It's only the beginning of the year 2020 and yet, a lot has already happened one after another. the first month has been filled with issues, tragedies and disasters that it's gonna be a month all of us will never forget.

Let's start with the Australian wildfire. based on reports, this could probably be the worst wildfire that our eyes probably has seen. The fire actually started in late July and just got worst ever since. It turned thousands of homes into ashes and an estimated 1 billion animals have been killed. as the crisis gained a global attention, numerous number of help has been sent.

in fact, a 20 year old model has gone viral for sending explicit photos to those who donate at least $10 after sending her a confirmation. Kaylen Ward calls herself the naked Philanthropist and this unique way of her was actually successful and she was able to raise $1 million as of January 6.

As for the Iran - U.S. conflict, this started a long way back since the world war. the tension only got heated again after Maj. Gen. Qassem  Soleimani got killed last January 3, 2020 by U.S. drone strike near Baghad International Airport. some media reported the killing as assassination.

It angered the people of Iran and a pledged revenge was circulating through the internet. it alarmed the people and scared some netizens thinking that another war was about to happen. World war 3 actually trended because of fear. though most of the tweets were filled with memes. Thankfully, it didn't reach to that extreme and hopefully, no war is happening anytime soon.

another tragedy that happened which did not really get a lot of global attention was the Ukrainian Plane crash where all 176 people on board the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 from Tehran to Kyiv weren't able to escape death when the Boeing 737 800 got shot down last January 8, 2020. This happened during the high tension between Iran and the United States.

And of course the news that broke our hearts, NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi's Helicopter crash. due to an unexpected helicopter crash which shocked a lot of people, we lost the "Black Mamba" Kober Bryant and his daughter together with seven other people last January 26 2020. There were no survivors from the crash and the world is mourning together with his family.

Who would forget the Taal Eruption? the eruption that started January 12 and affected thousands of families. It caused thousands of people to lose their home. some people had no choice but to leave their beloved pets and animals behind since they can't bring it with them in the evacuation centers. Fortunately there are kind hearted people who volunteered to take care of the animals while the families are still recovering.

The ash falls turned some tourist spots into a dead place covered with gray ashes. It killed a lot of animals and some affected families are still struggling to get back on their feet. An intense eruption was feared and was raised on Alert level 4. Fortunately, the feared eruption haven't happened since then and hopefully it won't. But we can't control Natural disasters and all we can do is trust and pray to our Lord and savior.

Lastly, the novel corona virus outbreak. It started out as a mysterious disease from Wuhan, China and started to spread rampantly to other countries. 29 countries has reported 71, 334 confirmed cases and a death toll of 1,775.

face masks has been sold out due to the crowds panic and fear. there is still no cure for this disease and we don't have much information about this virus so everyone is advised to be extra careful. wear your mask anywhere you go. As much as possible, avoid crowded places and sanitize your hands from time to time with alcohol. If you feel sick, go see a doctor immediately.

It has only been a month but January felt like year. we all had high hopes for this year to be our best year ever but unfortunately, some things doesn't go the way we want it to be. But that doesn't mean that just because of all the tragedies and issues that happened, this year won't get any better. let's try to find peace in the middle of chaos. we will encounter more situations like this in the future, not that i'm asking for it, but that's how life works.
